Counterbalance Pendant

Inspired by the work of Louise Bourgeois and the pebbles of Suffolk beaches, we set out to develop a bespoke light fitting for a client.

The design responds to its context with both a careful choreography of light, and the way the fitting occupies the space as an object in its own right.

A sphere of light is engulfed by a solid, irregular mass which sits in counterbalance with an antenna protruding into the space. The former heavy element forms a downlight to the table below whilst the latter provides diffuse, ambient light to the space above.

Both texture and a sense of mass are important to the piece, the delicate balance of which results in a gentle movement about the central pivot.
